LCD or Plasma: Now or Later

I've had a 36" tv for the past 6 years and the picture is great. Although a larger screen that accomodates HD and widescreen DVDs is tempting, I have no intention on purchasing either an LCD or Plasma display any time soon for these reasons. In other areas of technology, I'm usually quick to adapt and change to what's new, but this is one area that I'm not going to be so quick about.

My sister and law's friend works for a company that installs plasma displays in various settings. The average lifespan of these units is a little over a year or two at most. At $4 - $6k per unit, that's an amazing expense. I can't imagine dropping that much money for something so exependable. I'd rather have a reliable, long-term product.

What are your thoughts?
